From the Principal
Dear Parents, Staff and Students
Happy Mother’s Day
Happy Mother’s Day to all our wonderful mothers, grandmothers, aunts and special friends. This Sunday, May 12th, is a special day to celebrate and show appreciation for everything you do. Your love, care, and dedication to your family are truly valued and appreciated. We hope you enjoy a relaxing and joyful day with your loved ones, and we thank you for being such an important part of our school community. From the students, teachers, and staff, we wish you a very happy Mother’s Day!
Thank you for coming along to our Mother’s Day Mass and morning tea. Sincerest thanks to our wonderful P&F for preparing such a lovely morning tea.
God, today, we celebrate mothers, but the truth is, we ought to celebrate them every day.
Their love manifests in small, subtle ways each day–in the mundane that sometimes we can take for granted.
We thank you for their sacrificial love and ask you to uplift them today.
Thank you for the gift they are in our lives.
In Your name we pray. Amen.
Feast of the Ascension
On Sunday, May 18th, we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension, a significant event in the Christian calendar. This holy day commemorates the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven, as described in the New Testament. Jesus appeared to his disciples 40 days after his resurrection and ascended into heaven, leaving them with a final commission to spread his teachings to all nations. This feast reminds us of Jesus’ promise to be with us always and the hope of eternal life. We encourage our students and families to reflect on the significance of this feast and it’s message of hope and joy.
First Eucharist Parent and Child Workshops – 15 May
Parents of children receiving the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist this year are reminded about the Parent and Child Workshops on Wednesday evening. The workshops will be held in the Year 4 classroom and at least one parent from each family is expected to attend.
UR Strong Parent Workshop – 16 May
All parents are welcome to come along to a UR Strong Friendology Workshop, in the Science Laboratory, next Thursday 16th May commencing at 2.00pm. The workshop will be facilitated by Social Worker, Chloe Grant. URSTRONG provides simple but meaningful language and skills to open a dialogue with your children. Please consider coming along as Chloe discusses with you how the program has meaningful impact at school, and the potential to assist with working with your children at home to deal with friendship issues.
Uniform Donations – Monday 13th May
Parents have recently made generous donations of used school uniforms in good condition. Uniforms, including winter skirts, will be donated to Clutterbugs and Deacon Trevor, from St Francis of Assisi Parish. Deacon Trevor will arrange the uniform donations to be sent to orphanages and schools in India, Africa and Vietnam. Clutterbugs are dedicated to reusing and recycling second-hand items. By donating their used uniforms, parents are not only reducing waste and supporting sustainability, but also helping to provide affordable uniforms for families in need. Clutterbugs will accept donations of clean uniforms. Parents wishing to donate are requested to leave uniforms in the office on Monday 13th May.
P&F News
The P&F meeting this week was well attended and we were delighted to welcome Mr Clinton Payne, newly appointed Principal, to the meeting.
The P&F have recently had a successful Cadbury Chocolate fundraiser and a wonderful Mother’s Day shopping stall for our children to enjoy. Sincerest thanks to Jennifer and Sheree for their efforts in coordinating both these events.
Welcome Clinton Payne, and family, to Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School.
Pre-Kindy Enrolments 2025 and 2026
We have limited enrolments available for the Pre-Kindy program in 2025. Places for 2026 are also filling up quickly. Parents who have a younger child are encouraged to book in for the few places that are available in Pre-Kindy 2025 and 2026 as soon as possible. Please encourage family members, friends and neighbours who are considering a place in the Pre-Kindy Program to be in touch as soon as possible.
Walk and Ride Safely to School
Thank you for joining us for the Walk and Ride Safely to School morning this week. It was terrific to see the children make such an effort to walk or ride to school. I think the parents also enjoyed the experience. Perhaps you could consider walking to school one morning each week on a regular basis. It is a great mental health boost to start the day.
Next Week
Don’t forget the First Eucharist Parent/Child Workshop on Wednesday 15 May at either 4.00pm or 5.30pm.
Chloe Grant will be facilitating a workshop for UR Strong on Thursday 16 May at 2.00pm. All are invited.
We look forward to the Year 2 and Merit Award Assembly on Friday 17 May. The Year 2 class have been working hard to prepare for their assembly and it is an event not to be missed. I hope to see you there.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Warm regards.

RE News
MJR News Week 4
This fortnight, we have been focusing on the parable of The Vine and the Branches (John 15: 1 – 8) and being CHEERFUL.
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.
He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit,
and every one that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.
Remain in me, as I remain in you”.
Jesus wants us to produce fruit. Good fruit, like kindness, generosity, and faithfulness. Most of all, He wants us to love others as He has loved us. As a branch needs to be connected to the main part of the plant in order to live, we need to be “attached” to the Lord. Jesus wants us to be cheerful in our following. By being cheerful and happy, we share the Good News of Jesus with those around us.
