From the Principal

Dear Parents, Staff and Students

Well, here we are – final day of Term Two, and my final day as Principal.  I can hardly believe the day has come.  What a journey it has been!  Good and worthwhile things are never easy.   This job is wonderful, but there have also been plenty of sleepless nights and plenty of worry about making decisions that are the right ones.  Looking after a school means looking after the needs of a lot of people, most importantly, the children.  As school leader I have tried to never lose sight of the reason why we are here; to provide the best possible environment to ensure every child can thrive, reach their full potential, and know and love Jesus.  This job involves the collaboration of staff and parents working together, and this is something I am proud of as I leave Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School. We have built a collaborative and nurturing community of partnership between home and school. Long may it continue. I leave this school feeling a great sense of joy and satisfaction in all that has been achieved.  I am so proud of our young people.  They are polite, considerate, and caring.  I love hearing our visitors often commenting on how well behaved the Matthew Gibney children are.  I feel very privileged to complete my career at this lovely school.

There are so many people to thank.  It would be remiss of me not to mention our dedicated and talented Assistant Principals, Karen Keddie and Christina Zurzolo.  Karen and Christina have supported me, and the staff and students in so many ways.  I am so grateful to them for their support and for the way they always put the needs of our children front and center.

On your behalf, I thank the staff.  Our staff are hardworking and dedicated.  We wish them a well-deserved and relaxing school holiday break.

I am so grateful for the lovely farewell liturgy on Thursday.  The event was full of warmth and joy.  Thank you to the staff for preparing the liturgy, the video, and the beautiful gifts.  I was truly moved by it all.  I had time last night to read through the book that each child has contributed to.  It will be such a special memory to look back on regularly during the years ahead.  As educators, we don’t ever fully understand our impact until we can listen to and read the words of the children.  They are genuine and heartfelt.

Finally, sincerest thanks for the many kind words, emails, cards, and gifts I have received.  You have all enriched my life in so many ways. I will miss this wonderful community that has grown so close to my heart. How blessed I am!  Best wishes to you all for all that the future holds.

Good News

Wow! What an end to the term we have had. Year 3 assembly saw us teaching the school about the Eucharist, our Magical Monday Mornings and all about this amazing country we call home, Australia. We then presented our work on landmarks from all around this Great Southern Land and finished with some Boogie Bounce where we jumped into some fitness! Phew! Now it’s time for a well-earned break.

Bored on the School Holidays?

School holidays are often depicted as times full of fun, and busy activities. But for most of us, it can be hard to come up with ideas to keep our kids occupied that don’t cost a fortune, and don’t involve spending heaps of time on devices.

Attached is a huge list of suggestions for encouraging your kids to try new things.

Remember – boredom inspires creativity, it is actually really healthy for your child to experience boredom!
