From the Principal
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Week 6! The days are seriously just flying by at the moment as this time of the year is extremely busy for all of us. I hope that you are all taking some moments in the week to be still and enjoy those special things that bring joy.
Last week, I had the opportunity to be stationed at the front desk for a short period while Mrs West was out. What I noticed was parents coming and going, picking up kids for appointments, or the dreaded soccer accident. This got me thinking, that no matter how much you try and plan, plans could simply go out the window. I do love being a parent, having my girls express that sense of reliance but managing time can be difficult at times. I remember that this is what it is like in the classroom teaching, juggling the tasks and being there for 30 odd students. This is what I witness from our staff here at MG. It just shows, we all care about the kids here and play a big part in who they will become as people.
We are all in that busy period right now. I mean, even as I am writing this, I know our teachers are at home writing reports. And I guess this is why I love this psalm. In the busy times, God will whisper to us so we stop and see the good stuff even when we are in challenging times. And our school oozes the good stuff. You can see and feel it in the way all interact and the way we are gentle on each other.
This makes me think of a chat I had with three young men the other day who were experiencing a few struggles with each other. Nothing major, just a little struggle. I honestly thought that having this discussion would have been difficult but these boys definitely did calm the storm. They genuinely discussed what was going on with such kindness and compassion that the tension disappeared and there was that true sense of calmness. I truly did see our school values come alive in these boys and it made me realise what a massive impact we have on each of them.
That sense of calmness was also experienced in the midst of a busy day with our Year 5 students leading our Remembrance Day assembly. The peacefulness and reverence was felt by all staff and students. And during the minute silence, there was not a sound. This assembly was a very special moment for our community and the respect from our kids showed what we are about here. We thank God for all people that have served to help us live the wonderful life we do here in Australia.
MGCPS Annual Community Meeting
Please join the Matthew Gibney Community on Wednesday, 26th November at 7.00pm for the P&F and School Advisory Council AGM. Staffing for 2026 will be announced at the ACM.
Thank You for a Fantastic Colour Run!
What an amazing day we had at our Colour Run! The smiles, laughter, and vibrant colours made it a truly memorable event for our students. More importantly, the children had an absolute ball—running, cheering, and enjoying every moment together.
Thanks to your generosity, we raised valuable funds that will go directly towards supporting our school. These contributions help us continue to provide the best possible learning environment for our students.
A very special thank you to our parents for your understanding regarding our decision not to have younger siblings run the course. This was an important compliance measure to ensure the safety of all participants, and your support helped us maintain a secure and enjoyable event for our students.
We are so grateful for the enthusiasm and cooperation of our entire school community. Events like this remind us how strong and supportive our Matthew Gibney family truly is.
Thank you again for making the Colour Run such a success!
🎄 Christmas Concert – Friday, 5 December 🎄
We are thrilled to invite all families to our Christmas Concert on Friday, 5 December, held on our beautiful school oval. This promises to be a magical evening filled with music, community spirit, and festive cheer!
What’s Happening?
- Picnic on the Oval: Families are welcome to arrive from 5:00pm to enjoy a relaxed picnic under the summer sky.
- Concert Begins: At 6:00pm, the stage will come alive with dazzling lighting and sound, creating a spectacular atmosphere for our performances.
- Special Reflection: Our amazing Kindy students will lead us in a heartfelt reflection on the Nativity story, reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas.
For this event to shine, we need all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 to attend. Every child plays a part in making this night unforgettable—and rumor has it, Santa might have a special treat for those who join us!

End of Year Reports – Celebrating Growth and Looking Ahead
As we approach the end of another wonderful school year, student reports will soon be available for families. These reports provide a clear picture of your child’s learning progress and achievements, following both our Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School Assessment and Reporting Procedure and the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) requirements for Western Australian schools.
You can read more about our school’s approach to assessment and reporting by visiting our https://matthewgibney.wa.edu.au and learn about the SCSA standards here.
What should you do when you receive your child’s report?
- Celebrate their achievements – every effort and improvement matters.
- Discuss the report together – help your child reflect on their learning journey.
- Set goals for 2026 – identify areas for growth and ways to support learning at home.
We also take this opportunity to thank our dedicated staff for the time, care, and professionalism they put into preparing these reports. Their commitment ensures that each report is meaningful and accurate. Together, let’s make this a moment of pride and encouragement for every student!
End of Year Reports will be sent out on Thursday, 11 December.
Transition Morning – A Sneak Peek into 2026!
We are excited to announce our Transition Morning on Wednesday, 10 December, from 9:00am to 10:00am. This special hour gives students the chance to meet their 2026 teacher and spend time in their new classroom environment.
It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to feel confident and prepared for the year ahead, and our staff are just as thrilled to welcome their new classes! This morning is all about building excitement, easing nerves, and starting the journey toward another fantastic year of learning.
We can’t wait to see the smiles and enthusiasm as our students take this important step forward!
Enjoy the good things that happen here at MG. I wish you the best for the coming fortnight, and if the waves get stormy, remember God will calm things for you.
Take care of yourself.

Good News
In Week 4, our Year 6 students headed off on an exciting three-day adventure camp in Busselton. The program included team-building games, a climbing wall, beach activities, and fun evening challenges with a quiz and “Minute to Win It” competitions.
Students explored the Yallingup Maze, worked together to solve tricky challenges, and enjoyed a guided tour through the stunning Ngilgi Cave. A visit to Simmo’s Ice Creamery was a clear highlight, and the final day included a walk along the iconic Busselton Jetty and a chance to buy a small souvenir.
The camp was a fantastic opportunity for students to grow in confidence, strengthen friendships and create lasting memories. A big thank you to all the staff who helped make this such a special experience!
Year 4 has so many talented and creative artists. They have created symmetrical creatures, nature artworks and area pictures.
