From the Principal

Dear Parents, Staff and Students

Holy Week Prayer

Lord God,

I give you thanks, for you are good, and your mercy is endless.

Here I stand, at the start of this holy week,

This week in which your church remembers Jesus’ passion and death,

I thank you Lord, for sending your son to us, in human frailty.

To walk the road, we walk.

May we walk in the way of his suffering,

And share also in his resurrection.

Amen.

Holy Week Liturgies

Holy Week is the week leading up to Easter Sunday. It is the last week of the 40-day season of Lent. It is considered the most holy and most important of all the weeks in the Church’s liturgical calendar because it is in this week that we focus on the last week of Christ’s life, remembering especially His passion, death and resurrection which brings salvation to humanity.  This week is the source and summit of our Christian faith.

The children will reverently walk with Jesus this Holy Week, as they re-enact Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and then the triumph of Easter Sunday and the walk to Emmaus.  We warmly welcome all our parents and families to take the time to journey with the children each day, starting on Tuesday 26th March at 9am.

P&F Morning Tea

At the conclusion of our celebration on Thursday 28th March, the P&F will host a Morning Tea.  This is a wonderful way to conclude, what has been a very busy and eventful first term.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Thank you to all the parents/guardians who made times to see their child’s teacher this week. Teachers very much appreciate meeting parents and sharing your child’s progress.  Parent teacher interviews are just one way to share your child’s learning, to report to you about their progress and to set future goals for each student.  Please continue to communicate with your child’s teacher if you have any concerns via Seesaw or email.

Parents/Guardians are reminded to always approach the class teacher about issues between your child and another in the class.  The class teacher is in the best position to look into the problem and assist the children with age-appropriate ways of solving problems.  It may take a day to sort through, but your class teacher will communicate with you and let you know the outcome.

Cool Pool Day Thank You

A huge thank you to all the parent volunteers who assisted with the activities on Cool Pool Day.  We are extremely grateful for your enthusiasm and willingness to get a bit wet (or a lot).  This year, we also had 9 Year 12 students from La Salle College, assisting Years 4-6.  Again, we could not be more thankful for their assistance.  They braved the cold water of the big pool with smiles on their faces.

Well done to our champions and runners up in Years 4, 5 and 6.

Interschool Swimming Carnival

On Friday, our school competed in Southeast Metro Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival 2024 at Bayswater Waves.  We had a team of 24 swimmers (Years 4-6), and in true Matthew Gibney spirit, each student swam their race/races to the best of their ability, with pleasing results.  Congratulations to all members of our swimming team, who gave it ‘their all’ on the day.  Thank you to the parents and family members who attended to lend support to our swimmers.

Merit Award Recipients – Week 7

Congratulations to all our students who were the proud recipients of a Merit Award at the assembly last week.  Great job everyone!

Staff News

As mentioned in a previous newsletter, it will be Mrs Flavia Lenzo’s last day on Monday 25th March.  Flavia has been a wonderful addition to our administration team over the past few years and we will miss her in the office. We wish Flavia all the best in her new position.

Sadly, I have to inform the school community that Mrs Christina Davies, who joined us at the beginning of the year as our Sports teacher, has resigned.  We are in the process of advertising for a new PE teacher over the holidays.  Mrs Davies will finish with us in Week 2 Term 2.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Davies for all her work with the children over the past 9 weeks.

Have a lovely weekend,

Karen Keddie

Good News

Kindy have been learning about the life cycle of a chicken.

Having real chicks in the classroom has also been so exciting, especially being able to watch the hatching process!

Well done Kindy!

Paediatrician Waitlist

There is some good news for those who have been on long waitlists to have their children assessed for ADHD.

And boy it’s about time!

Paediatricians, psychiatrists and neurologists outside of WA can now offer Telehealth appointments and prescriptions can be filled within WA. Previously families were flying to the Eastern States to access earlier appointments and medication.

Scan the QR code to find out more from perthkidshub.com.au, as well as a current list of Telehealth providers, and up-to-date availability of WA-based providers.

Sixth Sunday of Lent

(Palm Sunday)

23 & 24 March

This year, we shared with you the story of three inspiring women from across the globe, who overcame challenges to complete their education, access water and find secure employment. With the support of compassionate people like you, they are now forging a path to a better future for their families and their communities.

Ronita from the Philippines has now graduated high school and secured a job at a call centre. This job was only possible because of a certificate she gained from completing her studies.

Leaia and her family now have a water tank at their home in Samoa. She and her family now have a steady supply of clean drinking water. Next year, they will also have a toilet built, with the support of Caritas Samoa, which will further improve their health and living conditions.

Memory completed her vocational training course in carpentry and joinery. After completing a work contract at one of the largest electrical companies in Malawi, Memory now plans to return to her village and provide carpentry services to people in her community.

It’s through the generosity of people like you that we can continue to support people like Ronita, Leaia and Memory.

There is still time to donate! Together, we can help vulnerable communities face their challenges today and build a better tomorrow, for all future generations.

You can donate through Project Compassion donation boxes and envelopes available from your parish, by visiting caritas.org.au/project-compassion or by calling 1800 024 413.

EXTEND OSHC

Is it a bird, is it a panda, is it Superman?  No, it is the Extenders having their fun games race day, after their crazy hat picnic and Easter eggs hunt.

This is our last post for the term, it has been a pleasure working with the children and we look forward to seeing them all in Term 2. We wish our Extenders’ families and the school community a good holy week preparation and a happy Easter celebration.
